  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

These sticky hoisin meatballs are tender, savory-sweet, and coated in a glossy hoisin glaze. Made with ground beef or turkey, garlic, ginger, and soy sauce, they’re served with a fresh sesame scallion sauce for a delicious dinner or appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Meatballs

  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp minced ginger
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Glaze

  • 1/2 cup hoisin
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil

For the Scallion Sauce

  • 1/4 cup chopped scallions
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp sugar

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef or turkey, breadcrumbs, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, minced garlic, minced ginger, egg, sesame oil, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into evenly sized meatballs.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the hoisin, soy sauce, rice vinegar, water, and sesame oil for the glaze. Set aside.
  4. In another bowl, combine the chopped scallions, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and sugar. Stir until the sugar dissolves and set aside.
  5. Cook the meatballs using your preferred suitable cooking method, turning as needed, until browned and cooked through. Ground beef or turkey meatballs should reach an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).
  6. Add the prepared hoisin glaze to the cooked meatballs. Gently toss to coat and cook over gentle heat until the glaze becomes glossy and sticky.
  7. Transfer the meatballs to a serving dish and serve warm with the scallion sauce.

Notes

  • Ground beef creates a richer flavor, while ground turkey offers a milder alternative.
  • Avoid overmixing the meatball mixture to keep the meatballs tender.
  • If the glaze becomes too thick, add a small splash of water and stir gently.
